Scoring framework

HOT Score Methodology

How unusual trading activity and price movement become a ranked market event rather than a simple winners list.

HOT Coin v2 definition

HotCoin detects events where real trading activity or price movement breaks away from a market's own normal behavior and comparable markets. Either signal can qualify on its own; agreement between both increases confidence. Long daily moves are distinguished from events happening now, and quiet markets are never forced to produce a perfect score.

Activity

How unusually active is trading?

  • Trade count and execution frequency
  • Volume growth and acceleration of recent activity
  • Price-change frequency and feed freshness
  • Deviation from the market's own history and peers

Movement

How unusually is price moving?

  • Immediate change over 10 seconds and 1 minute
  • Short trend and range over 5 and 10 minutes
  • Sustained movement over 1 and 4 hours
  • Daily rise, fall and high-low range over 24 hours

Time windows

Seven horizons replace a single fixed percentage rule.

10sMicro burst
1mImmediate confirmation
5mShort direction
10mShort persistence
1hHourly event
4hMedium expansion
24hDaily accumulation

Change and high-low range at each horizon are assessed against absolute event floors, the market's own recent baseline and comparable markets on the same venue. Ratios are interpreted together with real activity so low-priced assets are not promoted merely because of decimal-scale noise.

Signal combination

One strong signal can qualify; two reinforce

Activity and Movement are calculated independently on a 0–100 scale. HOT is not a simple average: it preserves a genuinely strong event in either component while giving additional weight when both components agree.

This allows a trade burst before price reacts, or a genuine price shock before activity broadens, to enter the list.

Entry and exit

Persistence filters one-tick noise

  • Normal entry: 3 qualifying samples out of the latest 4 at HOT 65+
  • Immediate entry: an exceptional event at HOT 85+
  • Minimum hold: about 3 minutes for a normal event
  • Strong peaks: roughly 5–8 minutes depending on intensity
  • Re-entry control: a stronger signal is required for 2 minutes after exit

Ranking and explanation

Every ranked event carries a reason

Scores are recomputed every 10 seconds and the displayed ranking refreshes every 30 seconds by default. The strongest supported signal determines the explanation shown with the row: trade surge, price surge, price drop, trade-backed move, daily move or volatility burst, together with its relevant horizon.

When a live source is delayed or a required metric lacks coverage, that component is excluded or the feed is marked partial. Scores are not inflated merely because fewer markets are currently available.
